Known to be the main hub of Malay intellectual and cultural centres during the days of colonialism, Singapore embodied the creative spirit that had long attracted many talented individuals – singers, actors, writers and journalists – from all over the archipelago. With their talents and enterprising spirit these individuals helped to build Singapore into one of the region’s main cultural and artistic hubs.
